Before plans turn to the second season, the inaugural series championships need to be decided in Pittsburgh. Seven drivers currently lead the championship chase heading into the finale weekend. Kyle Kalish holds the honor in Leopard Pro, being chased by Joel Jens. The Wisconsin driver, doing double duty all season long - is the top dog in the Yamaha Senior category. Chuck Gafrarar and Brian McHattie will fight it out in the Leopard Masters division with Mike McAndrews locking up the top spot in the Leopard Semi-Pro title. Zach Holden (Yamaha Junior), Sam Mayer (Yamaha Cadet) and Mark Fineis (Yamaha Rookie) set the bar in the remaining categories.

Big prizes will be up for grabs on the weekend in Pittsburgh as the United States Pro Kart Series is focused on returning back to its drivers. All drivers entered will leave with a commemorative USPKS event shirt to mark the season ending. Another $2,000 provided by USPKS and HYTORC for a driver to win both Leopard Pro feature races will be available, in addition to the $750 for each feature win. It could be a total of $3,500 for one driver on the weekend.

Each of the series champions will be provided with the championship trophy, a championship ring and personalized USPKS suite presented by Grand Products and designed by Oktane Visual. Awards will be presented to second through fifth place in the point standings, including a trophy along with free gas cards, 2014 USPKS entries and hotels for next USPKS season. All 35 drivers who finish the season in the top-five are set to receive a free set of Bridgestone YLC tires, courtesy of Margay Racing and Grand Products. The Leopard Pro champion will receive a complimentary entry into the Vega Thunder Road Nationals at the Atlanta Motorsports Park. Leopard Masters champion will receive an entry into the Championkart International Final in Jesolo, Italy on October 6, thanks to Russell Karting Specialties and Parolin.

Special prizes - including a drawing for a KartLift Pit Cart - will also be presented during the season-end awards ceremony, scheduled for Sunday evening at the banquet hall on the PIRC facility. The in-formal banquet will include appetizers, finger foods, and drinks, celebrating an exciting season of racing. The USPKS would like to thank Checkered Flag Motorsports, KartSport North America, iKart, Verde Speed Resources, Giovanni Bromante Racing, QPS Employment Group, Hollywood Crane Service, HMD Trucking, and all the racers and their families for the support of the season-end banquet.

The Pittsburgh weekend will see a change in the normal format schedule, to provide time for the banquet to take place at a reasonable time, along with adding a new feature for the Leopard Pro drivers. Friday will still hold five long sessions of practice for all categories, with the day ending for everyone at the USPKS complimentary cookout - sponsored by Giovanni Bromante Racing. During the cookout, racers and their families will be able to take part in the first USPKS Cornhole tournament, presented by eKartingNews.com. A total of 16 teams of two will face off in a bean bag competition, with trophies and medals for the top three. The winning pair will also receive a USPKS Cornhole set to take home. Saturday will be a typical round of the USPKS with qualifying, two 10-lap heat races and an 18-lap main event.

Sunday’s format will see some changes, including the addition of the KartSport North America Fast Five Shootout for the Leopard Pro division. The top five from qualifying will run once again, going for a $200 prize to secure the pole position and reset the top-five order. Following qualifying, each category will run a 14-lap prefinal, followed by a 22-lap main event.

Just last week, the USPKS officials sent out a rule update for the final two rounds of the series. For the Pittsburgh weekend, the Leopard Pro will utilize the Bridgestone YLC tire, replacing the YLB compound.
