SKUSA Pro Tour S2 champion moves up to top level for 2013 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour

Article By: CRG-USA

GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO (April 10, 2013) – Sabré Cook, the 2012 Superkarts! USA S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto champion, is set to begin the 2013 SKUSA Pro Tour this weekend (April 12-14) in Tucson, Arizona. The series will kick off its season at the Musselman Honda Circuit with Sabré set to compete in the S1 Pro Stock Moto division. The circuit is a familiar one for Cook, having already visited it twice, escaping from the cold weather in Colorado. Making her S1 debut, the first SKUSA Pro Tour female champion will be up against the best shifterkart drivers in North America.

Thus far in 2013, Cook has been busy trying to compete at the track while keep her up with her studies in college. The hectic schedule thankfully has not diminished her scores in the classroom, but her first three races of the season were not as expected. With no testing, Cook took on the Rotax Challenge of the Americas program for a third straight season. The first weekend was filled with mechanical issues, but progress was made in February for rounds three and four as she and mechanic Kimball Williams picked up the pace of her CRG. Questionable moves by other drivers resulted in Cook being collected in a number of incidents over the final two rounds, leaving her glad to be over with the Rotax portion of her 2013 schedule.

Focus now has turned toward the SKUSA Pro Tour season, continuing with a test session at the Tucson circuit two weeks ago. Now working with Darcy DeCoste Racing (DDR) Engines, Cook reacquainted herself with the six-speed machine. The overall feeling leaving the test was positive, as she prepares for her rookie S1 season. Her first shifterkart race of the season took place the first weekend in March at the Lone Star Grand Prix in Texas. In her first ever street race, Sabré drove to a fourth place finish against similar competition she will face on the Pro Tour.

Prior to the Tucson test, Cook visited the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, Arizona. Working with veteran karter and Bondurant instructor Alan Rudolph, Sabré got seat time in their corvettes and formula Mazda cars. During that time, she also met with former IndyCar driver Lyn St. James, gaining valuable knowledge about what it is to be a female in the motorsports world.

“The Bondurant trip was quite a treat,” stated Sabré. “I can’t thank Alan Rudolph and the entire school for their instruction and support, as well as Lyn St. James for her guidance and time with me. Last year was a great season on the Pro Tour, and now with a championship on the mantle, I’m hungry for more. The CRG chassis is phenomenal and now our relationship with DDR Engines, I think we have a chance to contend for podium finishes this year.”
