March 20, 2013 - This past weekend, GT7 Motorsports pilot Anthony Gangi Jr. would claim his first championship title of 2013. Taking to the Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida for the final rounds of the Florida Winter Tour (FWT) Formula Kart schedule, Gangi Jr. would end his campaign as the Vortex TaG Cadet class champion. Continuing a trend from 2012 that saw the young gun earn both the US Rotax Max Grand National Mini Max title as well as the SuperKarts! USA SuperNationals TaG Cadet championship, Gangi Jr. was able to add another FWT championship title with his strong performances in the ultra-competitive class.
Beginning the 2013 FWT schedule back in January at the Palm Beach International Raceway, Gangi Jr. started off his championship campaign with a strong opening weekend. Taking both heat race victories after placing fifth in qualifying for round one, Gangi Jr. would later top the blocks for the first time in 2013 FWT action with the final win. Round two saw the Tony Kart pilot take the day’s pole position, earning yet another heat race win en route to his second main event victory of the weekend.
Continuing his dominating style at the second stop of the tour in February, Gangi Jr. picked up right where he left off. Tackling the racy Homestead Karting Complex, the Brookville, New York resident was the round three polesitter. Adding the heat two win and yet another feature victory, Gangi Jr. had laid the groundwork for the 2013 TaG Cadet championship title. Round four saw the 2010 FWT Rotax Micro Max champ sweep the day’s action, adding to his overall championship points haul.
Heading into the finale rounds at the Ocala Gran Prix circuit this past weekend, Gangi Jr. held a sizeable advantage in the overall points. Taking the pole position in Saturday’s round five, Gangi Jr. started off on the right foot for the final weekend in the TaG Cadet action. Taking a narrow victory in the first heat, Gangi Jr. then battled for the lead in the final before settling for eighth overall. Again topping the time sheets for Sunday’s qualifying session, Gangi Jr. was unable to capitalize on this top spot. Yet, the rising star’s domination from the previous rounds was enough to secure the overall 2013 Vortex TaG Cadet championship title.
With his one drop coming from Sunday’s round six, Gangi Jr. was able to top the championship blocks with a 161 point advantage over the second place finisher. Having claimed third overall in 2012, Gangi Jr.’s efforts so far in 2013 have made him the driver to beat in the cadet karting ranks.
Anthony Gangi Jr. will now turn his attention to the final weekend of the Rotax portion of the FWT schedule. Entering as the Rotax Mini Max points leader, Gangi Jr. will look to become a double champion in 2013 FWT action, in hopes to add to his already impressive karting resume. Live video, timing and scoring, as well as audience interaction will be available for this weekend’s action in Ocala via the FWT Live! Broadcast page: floridawintertour.com/fwtlive/2013.
Anthony's championship efforts would not come without the help of his long time tuner and driving coach Chris Perez and engine builder Daniel Lambert (Disco Dan). Additionally, Gangi Jr. would like to thank Sargeant Motorsports for their continued support along with sponsors Millwork Solutions, Holeshot Drive Systems and PKT Axles.
