October 15, 2012 - Venezuelan pilot Robert La Rocca was the man to beat again this weekend at the final round of the F2000 Championship Series. After claiming the series title six weeks ago at the penultimate round of the 2012 schedule, La Rocca and his Auto Errante - HP Tech Motorsport did not let up and managed to take a pair of pole positions, two fastest race laps and another two victories, resetting the single season win record in the F2000 Championship Series.
"This was the way I wanted to end the season," expressed La Rocca. "We have been the dominant team and had the dominant car all season long and I wanted to close the series with a win. The team has worked tirelessly throughout the season and the title and numerous victories just show how great of a team I have."
From the pole position in round 13, La Rocca would fall to second on the opening lap before regaining the lead. Fending off the advances of fellow competitors on a restart, La Rocca would maintain the point for the entire fourteen-lap race. Battling hard for the record-breaking win, La Rocca and a fellow competitor would make contact on the final lap with the Venezuelan taking the checkers and his tenth win of the season.
After taking the pole position for round 14 at the tricky Watkins Glen International Raceway, La Rocca would fall back on the start to the fourth position. Quickly making moves to get by a pair of drivers, La Rocca would close lap one in the second position. Moving to the point on lap two, the Auto Errante - HP Tech Motorsport driver would control the pace for the rest of the event as he drove to the victory.
"I fell back at the start, but was able to get past two other drivers and then take the lead back on lap two," said La Rocca, who ran the fastest lap of the race and will officially be crowned Champion at the Series awards ceremony at Watkins Glen. "I just pushed as hard as I could for the whole race, and I couldn't be happier with this season. I had a great car all year and can't thank the team enough."
With the weekend sweep, La Rocca added to his overall totals for 2012. When the final checkered flag had flown, the Florida resident would set the pole position record in a single season with twelve, set the record for the number of fast lap awards with twelve and reset the single season win record with eleven. On three separate occasions, La Rocca would sweep the weekend's festivities, which had only been done once since 2008.
With the F2000 Championship Series crown, La Rocca will now shift his focus to the 2013 racing season. With plans not yet announced, La Rocca will look to solidify a future contract and continue his march up the motorsports ladder.
