"Stout fields and solid results"

October 9, 2012 - After helping to raise funds for The Kidney Trust earlier in 2012, Alex and Mikey Hornborg went to the track for a different cause this past weekend, as they would sport special visor strips and t-shirts to help raise awareness of breast cancer. Knowing parents of drivers that have overcome the disease and with a family member currently suffering from the illness, both drivers would look to take their Ocala Gran Prix prepared and pink ribbon outfitted Tony Karts to the front of the field.

Competing at the Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida for the Fall/Winter program race three, both drivers would fight hard for solid results in the double points event. With the series continuing to grow and nearly 100 entries on site, competition was tough in all divisions but none more so in the Rotax Junior class that would see 30 drivers take the green.

After running some competitive times in Friday's unofficial practice sessions, Mikey Hornborg would be back to the track on Sunday morning looking for another solid run in the Fall/Winter Series. Qualifying on the outside of row six, Mikey would hold station throughout the prefinal to claim the 12th position. Back on track with a full field of aggressive drivers, the Rotax Junior rookie would fall back a few positions to cross the line in 16th after running times that would be competitive for the top ten.

"I am really happy that we could wear my aunt's name on our visor strip," explained Mikey. "Breast cancer is a deadly disease and this month is dedicated to raising the awareness of this illness."

Older brother Alex would add, "The Ocala Gran Prix events keep getting more competitive. There are multiple national level race winners competing, big haulers and drivers from many different states. I felt proud to wear the pink on my visor and claim a top five result."

Alex would start his Saturday out with a sixth place effort in Rotax Senior qualifying and would look to improve throughout the wheel-to-wheel competition. After falling back to seventh in the prefinal, Alex took advantage of his inside row four starting position to advance forward in the afternoon's main event. Running with the lead quartet for the majority of the race, Alex would eventually claim a fourth place result when the final checkered flag would fall.

With a few weeks off before their next event, Alex and Mikey will both be on track fine tuning their skills and testing for future events. With the next Ocala Gran Prix Fall/Winter Series event scheduled for Saturday, October 27th, the duo will be at the track on Friday evening to practice under the lights in preparation for the night race.
