The North East Shifter Kart Series sponsored by Action Kart Supply, Joe White Racing Engines and KartingConnect.com made its return to Oakland Valley Race Park this past weekend for round four of the six-race 2012 tour.
Twenty five entries filled Oakland Valley Race Park pit area. A full day of Friday practice ran under very sunny skies. The turnout for Friday practice was very light (which was very unusual) until Friday night and Saturday morning when all haulers started rolling in.
Open practice resumed Saturday morning until 3pm. At 3:30pm the official first and second 30 minute rounds of practice began. Despite the full day of practice and with light rain falling Friday night, the track was still pretty green.
With the drivers meeting completed and all issues and concerns expressed, qualifying was in session. Qualifying was split up into two groups consisting of 12-13 karts in each group.
In the KZ class, this time around nobody had anything for Alex Manglass and his JW Racing built Maxter engine all weekend. The ultra-fast driver led qualifying, won the Pre-Final and walked away in the Final. I am not sure what his parents feed him, but whatever it is, I want some of that.
With an awesome race battle with current points leader Max DiBella and Bernard Muminovic, Michael aka “Rocket Rivera” managed to secure a 2nd place finish, followed by 3rd place winner Bernard Muminovic.
In the stock moto class, consistency was the key for David Edwards which landed him that p1 finish in the main. Right behind him the fastest qualifier in the stock moto class Chris Beck finished 2nd, followed by Eric Van Der Steur who managed to lock in that 3rd spot on the podium.
With now five races in the books, we turn our attention to the finale round #6 at New Jersey Motorsports Park which will take place October 27, 2012.
About North East Shifter Kart Series
In its second year of competition, the NESKS Series is enjoying significant growth with fields over 30 drivers not uncommon throughout the six-round series. One of highlights of the Northeast Shifter Kart Series, and a major factor in its growth so far, is the series’ “inclusive” nature and the different types of shifters racing it provides. In the US, the debate between the merits of Stock Moto- engine karts vs. the euro KZ/ICC powered racers has been intense in the last few years. While the Moto and KZ guys don’t always see eye-to-eye in the various karting internet message boards, this series has proven the two classes can coexist peacefully on the track.
