"Raimondo returns to European F3 Open action after summer break and will look to maintain his championship lead"

St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada - After a seven week summer break, Canadian formula car racer is set to return to the driver's seat this week. Currently leading the 2012 European F3 Open championship by 25 markers, Raimondo will descend upon the Formula 1 racing circuit Hungaroring, located just outside Budapest, Hungary.

"I can't wait to get back into the car racing again," explained Raimondo. "I had a nice break off in August and now I am itching to jump back behind the wheel."

With practice set for both Thursday and Friday, the weekend will be very competitive. By the time qualifying comes, the grid will be more close than at other circuits on the F3 Open schedule. Raimondo, however, is up to the challenge. Having never circuited the 14 turn, 4.381km track before, the RP Motorsports pilot will look to gain experience and track time.

"This will be a new track for me, however I have done a lot of laps with simulators and other racing games, so my feel for the track is somewhat close to how it will be in reality," added Raimondo. "It seems to be a track that suits my style, so I believe this weekend will be a very good one."

With three wins to his credit so far in 2012, and the championship lead in hand, Raimondo has certainly been impressive in his debut season in the European F3 Open. Looking to add another win to his tally as well as extend his points lead, Raimondo may have to run this weekend without his teammate and nearest championship challenger, Niccolò Schirò. A freak accident during a private test session resulted in Schirò's entire left arm with second and third degree burns and his participation in the Hungaroring round has yet to be confirmed.

"I'm hoping Niccolò will be able to drive this weekend after his horrible accident in testing," concluded Raimondo. "I wish him well and hope to see him back on track soon."

Raimondo has already arrived in Hungary for the sixth round of the 2012 European F3 Open Series championship, taking place this weekend September 7-9.
