WKA National Road Racing returns to Summit Point this weekend

Article By: WKA Pitboard

09.05.2012 (CONCORD, N.C.) - The WKA Vega / TS Racing National Road Racing Series driven by Mazda returns to action this weekend, and for the first time since 2008, the series renews its campaign at the historic Summit Point Motorsports Park in the panhandle of West Virginia.

The famed Mid-Atlantic road racing facility plays host to the sixth of seven 2012 NRRS rounds. The Woodbridge Kart Club hosts the event, tagged the WKC Memorial Cup.

The Memorial Cup will take place on Summit's popular "Main Course," a 10-turn, 2.0-mile course that features a 2,900-foot straightaway, a variety of high- and low-speed corners a slight elevation changes, most notably the downhill turn four.

Summit Point's Main Course once hosted WKC regional karting six times a year, with one race always the WKA national. In more recent years the Main Course has split WKC regional events with Summit's Shenandoah Circuit, New Jersey Motorsports Park and VIRginia Int'l Raceway with each track hosting one to two events per year.

The Main Course has featured regional WKC racing every year but as noted, not a national in four years. This weekend's event is a popular one on the 2012 schedule and should draw a strong field of enduro-style kart racers and teams from around the country.

Racing will open with another round of the Yamaha Sportsman Special Money Race, which pays $300 to the winner and invites sprint and enduro karts with Yamaha KT100, Sportsman pipe powerplants. Sponsorship of the special 30-minute race has once again been provided by "Wild" Bill Holder's Safe Harbour Wine Storage and Jeramie Bolt's Bolt's Saw Service.

Best Appearing Kart Awards will be presented at Sunday morning's drivers meeting. An award will be presented to a sprint and enduro racer.

Summit Point's gates will open for kart teams at 6 p.m. Thursday. Friday will feature a full day of practice before some 40-plus national classes and various local-option divisions race among seven race groups Saturday and six groups on Sunday.

New Concept Design bodywork, custom paint job will be raffled at Summit Point

09.05.2012 (CONCORD, N.C.) - A set of New Concept Design bodywork and a $500 gift certificate for a custom paint job at The Shop in Maryland will be raffled off this weekend at the WKC Memorial Cup WKA Vega / TS Racing Road Racing Series national at Summit Point Motorsports Park.

Raffle tickets will be sold at $20.00 for an "arm's length." The winning ticket will be drawn at Sunday morning's drivers meeting, and the lucky ticket holder must be present to win.

Ed Shampine from New Concept Design in Cicero, N.Y., has donated a set of fiberglass bodywork, which will include a sprint or enduro nosecone and a set of regular length sidepanels.

The Shop in Beltsville, Md., has donated a $500 gift certificate toward a custom graphics job on the bodywork. The Shop is a specialty dragster paint shop that has done the graphics on "Wild" Bill Holder's enduro kart, which won the Best Appearing Enduro Kart Award at VIR in July.

The winner will be responsible for shipping costs. Half of the proceeds will be given to WKC and the other half to the WKC Scholarship Fund.

WKA and WKC thanks New Concept, The Shop and "Wild" Bill Holder for their donations and efforts in organizing the raffle, which gives back to club and supports the sport of karting.
