SANTINO FERRUCCI PREPARES FOR CIK-FIA KF3 CHAMPIONSHIPS

"2012 United States Rotax Junior champion set to head back overseas"

Article By: Race Tech Development

August 30, 2012 - After a dominating performance at the United States Rotax Grand Nationals, American driver Santino Ferrucci is set to head back overseas and take on the world at the CIK-FIA KF3 Championship in Zuera, Spain. Looking to continue his winning ways, Ferrucci will once again look to put his Energy chassis up front during the September 19-23 event weekend.

"I am in a confident mood and hope my good fortune continues in Zuera," expressed Santino. "At a race where the top 25 drivers run the same times, I need to race to the front and hold the position once I get there. I have learned more about the carburation, which has been my downfall in previous events and I know I have the skill to run at the front of the field."

With only seven KF3 race weekends under his belt, Ferrucci has turned heads in the European karting scene just as he did earlier in August in North America. Competing at the United States Rotax Grand Nationals, the talented up and coming pilot went unbeaten in on track sessions scoring the pole position, three heat race wins, prefinal win and main event victory. With the dominating performance, Ferrucci earned a Team USA berth and will now represent the United States at the Rotax Grand Finals in Portimao, Portugal later this year.

In KF3 competition, Ferrucci hasn't been the dominant driver, but has been in contention for the win in multiple events. With a two-race event format in each previous race weekend, Santino has shown his true speed. In the CIK - FIA KF3 European Champions, Santino Qualified third out of 117 competitors and represented the United States well by being the only American pilot to make the main event on Championship Sunday. Leading laps and winning heat races, Ferrucci's lack of experience with the Tillitson carburetor was his only demise as he went on to claim a pair of fifth place results in both finals.

Heading to Zuera, Ferrucci will be introduced to a new format of racing. With 120 drivers ages 13 to 16 set to make an attempt to qualify, each competitor will then race in six heat races. Points will be calculated from that point and only the top 34 will make the main event.

Ferrucci added, "It is going to be tough. After the heat races, you have to make sure that you are in the top 34. With no last chance qualifiers, you are either in, or go home. My goal is to be as far up the starting grid as possible and ensure I have the best shot at victory."
