August 28, 2012 - Heading to Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia, F2000 Championship Series pilot Robert La Rocca would look for another successful weekend in his quest for the championship. When the weekend finally came to a close, the Auto Errante - HP Tech Motorsports driver would score a pole position, track record, race win, third place podium result all en route to securing the title. Remaining true to form, La Rocca was the dominant driver on the weekend and will now head to the final event with no pressure of the championship on his mind.
"It was a great weekend yet again," explained La Rocca. "It shows how hard the Auto Errante - HP Tech Motorsports guys work. We had a plan for the weekend and stuck with it to the very end. I think we could have challenged for the win in race two, but the championship was more important and knowing a podium result was all that was needed, I played it safe and came home third."
Qualifying in the second position for race one, Robert La Rocca would go to work when the wheel-to-wheel action commenced working hard to take the top spot. An intense battle for the first couple of laps would ensue before the Venezuelan driver took command and began to open a gap. Setting a new lap record as he drew away from his rivals, La Rocca went on to take the checkered flag by 2.323 seconds.
La Rocca continued, "Not only did the win extend my championship point lead, it was also record setting as we became tied with the most wins in a single season by any team or driver."
Race two would be a little more hectic as weather would move into the area and tricky conditions would present themselves to all drivers. Knowing that a podium result is all that was needed to secure the championship, La Rocca methodically worked his way around the slick Summit Point facility to come home third.
"The championship was the main goal for us," added La Rocca. "With the conditions the way they were, it was better for me to drive conservatively and bring the championship to my guys. They deserve it."
With some time off before the next event, La Rocca will enjoy his new accomplishment and update his racing resume. Back on track at the Watkins Glen International Raceway in Watkins Glen, New York in late October, the Auto Errante - HP Tech Motorsport squad will look to cap the season off right. With two more races on the docket for the weekend, La Rocca and his team have the opportunity to break the all-time series record for the number of wins in a single season.
