Goodwood Kartways / Intrepid Canada continued its International program a week ago as it hosted a team of ten Venezuelan drivers at the second round of the Pan American Rotax Max Challenge. Team manager Marco Di Leo had the team truck open for business at Michiana Raceway Park as he reunited with friends from the Florida Winter Tour and contested the second round of Eastern Qualifying in the United States.

“It’s always a pleasure to work with the Venezuelan drivers as we share a great passion for the sport,” Di Leo said upon his return to the team shop in Canada. “The weekend was quite successful, and we were able to accelerate the learning curves of some of our very young Micro-Max drivers. We were very proud of the top-five finishes in Micro, and know that these young pilots will be on the top step of the podium soon enough.”

The final tally saw Intrepid drivers qualify fastest in class three times and convert to a pair of wins and three podiums, but the crew was surely more focussed on the results of the six Micro-Max drivers that Di Leo previously noted. Florida Winter Tour drivers Leonardo Rinaldi and Victor Prato were back in familiar surroundings and were joined by twins Sergio and Santiago Terife, and Alessandro and Anthony Famularo, along with single entries in Junior, Senior, Masters and DD2 Masters.

First of the top-five results in Micro-Max was by Sergio Terife on Saturday. After qualifying eighth and advancing to sixth in the prefinal at MRP, he moved forward once again at the start of the main. Sergio ran a bulk of the final in fifth before fighting for fourth spot in the closing laps while defending sixth at the same time and spurring on the drivers in the team tent. Santiago joined him in the top-ten finishing eighth, then Sunday proved his turn in the top five.

After qualifying sixth and maintaining the position through a ten-lap prefinal, Santiago got the spot he needed in the second final. Racing in a pack from fourth to sixth, he settled in the middle, finishing fifth. Rinaldi and brother Sergio joined him in the top ten as they crossed eighth and ninth respectively in a field of eighteen Micro-Max racers.

The hardware came from the elder statesmen of the group with Rotax Masters a head-to-head battle between Enrico Friso and sparring mate Guy Roy. Friso edged his way to fast time after both qualified on 44.5 Saturday, and the pair were in close quarters throughout. Friso emerged on top and scored a pair of wins for Intrepid. Florida Winter Tour DD2 Masters Champion Carlo Rinaldi was also on the podium as he qualified on pole and took second on Sunday.

Full team results from MRP can be seen below. The next qualifying event for the Pan American Rotax Max Challenge that will have Intrepid Canada drivers involved will be at Mosport International Karting on June 25th.
