TEMECULA, CA (May 26, 2011) – In just four weeks, the Superkarts! USA Mountain Region will begin their 2011 season with a double-header weekend scheduled for June 25-26 at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway. The excitement has been building as of late with the warmer weather now greeting the many karters in the Colorado area. SKUSA President Tom Kutscher and SKUSA MR Regional Director Curt Kistler have been finalizing the last details to help make the opening event of 2011 a memorable one and also give a chance for the many SKUSA Pro Tour competitors to sample the exact course to be utilized for the SKUSA SummerNationals in July.

Grand Junction Motor Speedway is located in the northern portion of the western Colorado city, just east of the regional airport. The 9/10-mile course features fast straight-aways, elevation changes and challenging corners. The clockwise configuration will be utilized for the opening weekend for the SKUSA Mountain Region program, the same layout scheduled for the SKUSA SummerNationals - set for July 15-17. The Grand Junction facility will then close that direction of the course following the SKUSA MR weekend until the July Pro Tour event. The SKUSA staff, along with the Mountain Region and Grand Junction facility personnel, has been putting together a game plan to make the June event a perfect warm-up for what is to come in July.

“The SKUSA Mountain Region is important to us and the karting community,” stated Tom Kutscher of Superkarts! USA. “We are getting a lot of calls here at the home office with a number of individuals and teams interested in the program for 2011 and beyond. I really want to stress to our Pro Tour competitors that the SKUSA Mountain Region race in June will be the last opportunity to practice the clockwise direction of Grand Junction until the SummerNationals weekend. If you have never been to this great facility, I encourage you to be trackside in June to be ready for July.”

The event and SKUSA Mountain Region series will host seven categories: S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto, S4 Master Stock Moto, S5 Junior Stock Moto, TaG Senior, TaG Master, TaG Junior and TaG Cadet. Local option classes, such as Shifter Open and TaG Open, will be offered pending participation numbers. SKUSA Mountain Region officials are encouraging those who wish to compete in a local option class to contact them directly.

“I’m really excited about the upcoming season for the SKUSA Mountain Region,” commented SKUSA Mountain Regional Director Curt Kistler. “To begin at such a fine facility as Grand Junction is the perfect way to begin our year. Many Colorado teams have already committed to the event and the series with several Pro Tour teams planning to roll into town. It will be great to show just how great the racers are here in Colorado and to welcome those from out of town with open arms.”

Grand Junction Motor Speedway and the Cook family have also offered free trailer and RV storage at their facility for any team that would care to take advantage of this great deal, following the June SKUSA MR race weekend. The event registration/tire form for the June event is set to be published on the SKUSA Mountain Region website (www.skusamr.com) on June 1. The facility will be open for a full day of practice, with all fees to be paid directly to the track, as well as pit spots, transponder rental, VP fuel and spec oil. A SKUSA-style barbeque will take place following the last practice session Friday evening with everyone invited to attend. A large music festival will be in town the same weekend - thus SKUSA MR is encouraging competitors to book their hotel rooms quickly. The event hotel will be the Grand Vista Hotel near the airport.

Following Grand Junction, the SKUSA Mountain Region will make Pikes Peak International Raceway home with single Sunday races on August 28th and September 18th. Another perk on the year for the series will give racers as chance to win a track-ready Mazda RX7 ITA SCCA Spec Race Car. With every SKUSA Mountain Region race entry, drivers will earn a chance to qualify to win the car. The Mazda will be on display at all Mountain Region races, and will be in Grand Junction during the SummerNationals. Those wishing to purchase more than the free ticket earned per race entry can add a raffle ticket for $10 or three for $20, with all proceeds going to building the SKUSA Mountain Region program.
