May 5, 2011 - As the national karting season gets started, G-Phactory Kart Company would look to start it off on the right foot at the opening round of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour. Taking place this past weekend at the Musselman Honda Circuit in Tucson, Arizona, G-Phactory team members and Sodi Kart drivers showed speed and consistency to run at the front of the field but bad luck kept them from taking home some much deserved podium results.
"Both of our TaG Junior drivers showed great speed throughout the weekend," expressed Preston Newberry, G-Phactory Team Manager. "It looked as if a podium result was within our grasps only to be taken away in the last corner. I have no doubt that both of these junior competitors will be stars in the future."
With both competitors hailing from Columbia, Christian Munoz and Juan Jiminez were both hoping to stand atop the podium and be named the Honda Racing/HPD SpringNationals champion. Progressing through qualifying and the heat races in fine form, Munoz would be at the pointy end of the TaG Junior field as he would start the main event from the second position. With a fierce field of drivers under the age of fifteen, Munoz would battle hard to try and hold onto a top five result but came just short when the checkered flag flew as he crossed the stripe in P7.
Fellow junior pilot Juan Jiminez looked poised to take a solid podium result until the final corner on the final lap. Without any bad luck, Jiminez would have no luck at all as only yards from the finish line he made contact with another driver and came home in eleventh.
S4 pilot Howie Idelson ran into some bad luck throughout the weekend but managed to strive through to score a tenth place finish. Using his experience, Idelson garnered decent points in the opening round as he looks to work towards the end of the year championship.
Brandon Scheiber, competing with the North West Race Karts/Hammer Nutrition program, scored a pair of top ten results in his first mainstream shifter race. Showing great speed in his first event, Scheiber would do battle with some of today's top shifter kart drivers. With some more experience, Scheiber will soon be fighting for race wins.
While the G-Phactory team was in Tucson, fellow Sodi Kart drivers were competing in the CalState Series. Competing in the Junior PRD class, Willy Axton showed tremendous speed all weekend long taking home a second place finish on Sunday.
Newberry added, "To win in the Pro Tour, you need to have your full program together. We were very close to multiple podiums but we will be back at the next event looking for victories."
