16-year old to make European formula car debut at the famous Belgium circuit
SPA, BELGIUM - Sixteen-year-old American driver Gustavo Menezes, from Santa Monica, California, will debut in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup series this weekend at the famed Spa-Franchorchamps Belgium race circuit.
Menezes will drive six European race events in the 2011 season with the Interwetten Race team, which is based in Vienna, Austri - three in the Eurocup series and three in the ALPS Cup series. The Interwetten Racing team is a top-rated team in both series and finished second in the Eurocup championship in 2010. During last week's Interwetten race test with its other three drivers, Menezes was the fastest.
"It's going to be fun to race against friends I've already competed against during my European karting career, but now in Formula Renault’s very competitive Eurocup and ALPS Cup racing series," Menezes said. "Racing with such an established team as Interwetten at legendary circuits Spa, Silverstone, Red Bull Ring in Austria, Hungaroring and Imola this season will give me valuable experience to develop my racing skills, which is the goal. I am committed in racing Star Mazda's 2011 season and this additional seat-time should be a big asset. I hope it makes me more competitive."
Menezes' valued Star Mazda corporate partners, TrueCar, K1 Racing, camas10, Oakley and SafetyPark represent his supporters on his Interwetten Eurocup series car.
