Ogden USA Drivers Victorious in Homestead

"Issa and Kirkwood dominate Rotax Mini Max"

Article By: Race Tech Development

It was another weekend and another set of familiar results for Ogden USA as a pair of drivers dominated the Rotax Mini Max division at the opening round of the eastern portion of the Rotax Pan American Challenge. Taking place at the difficult Homestead Karting Complex, Ogden USA powered drivers Thomas Issa and Kyle Kirkwood stole the show taking two race wins, four podium results, heat race victories and fast race laps between them.

"The duo of Issa and Kirkwood were just awesome this weekend," expressed Jay Howard of Ogden USA. "We had to overcome some adversity at the final round of the Florida Winter Tour but proved that our engines are some of the quickest in the country. I would like to personally congratulate these drivers on an outstanding weekend."

After topping the time sheets during unofficial test sessions, both Issa and Kirkwood were ready for the weekend's action and that became evident during Saturday morning's qualifying runs. With a strong field of competitors, Issa would get the best of the duo turning the second quickest time of the session while Kirkwood would be fourth. In the prefinal, it was Issa again who would remain at the front of the field coming home in second while Kirkwood would only complete three laps and be classified in seventeenth, setting up one of the best drives of the year.

At the start of the final, Issa quickly took the point and drew away from his fellow competitors while Kirkwood would come from the back of the pack. Driving like a man possessed, Kirkwood sliced and diced his way through the field setting the second quickest lap time of the event. When the dust had settled, Kirkwood would stand on the second step of the podium giving Ogden USA a one-two finish in Rotax Mini Max.

While Saturday was a success, it was on to Sunday for Ogden USA with Thomas Issa claiming the pole position in the morning qualifying session. As he did Saturday, Kirkwood would set the fourth quickest time of the session and line up outside row two for the start of the prefinal.

Looking to stay out of trouble and set themselves up for good starting spots in the main event, Issa claimed the prefinal victory with Kirkwood crossing the stripe in third. Looking for a repeat performance from Saturday, Issa took the lead early in the final and never looked back taking the checkers by nearly a second. Kirkwood would battle hard for the podium and would eventually claim the third position as well as the fastest lap of the race.

Howard added, "These two drivers have a very bright future in the karting world and we hope that Ogden USA can help them achieve many more race wins and podiums."
