"Good start to the F2000 Championship Series"

The opening round of the F2000 Championship Series would provide a lot of drama as weather and incidents would control the weekend's action at the famed Virginia International Raceway (VIR). Set back in the rolling hills of Alton, Virginia, Venezuelan pilot Robert La Rocca and his Auto Errante-HP Tech Motorsports squad overcame all obstacles to score a pair of top five finishes in the opening weekend and currently sit second in the overall point standings.
"We had a good weekend," expressed La Rocca after the event was complete. "Obviously we all hope to start the season off with a win, but the next best thing is to have solid finishes and start your chase for the championship. With the help of the Auto Errante-HP Tech Motorsports team, we were able to do this and will now move on to the next event."
After qualifying second for the first of two events on the weekend, La Rocca was elevated to the pole position after the pacesetter would not make it to the starting grid in time. With the new order now in place, La Rocca would lead the field of twenty-eight to the green flag for Saturday's action. Just as if it looked the race would go off without a hitch, the heavens opened and rain doused the 3.27 mile facility. While some competitors chose to pit and switch to the optional rain tires, the Auto Errante-HP Tech motorsports squad elected to keep La Rocca on track and focus on completing the race distance.
While lap times were drastically slowed due to the weather, La Rocca was able to turn the fastest lap of the event all while other drivers had the much-preferred rain tires. Gingerly maneuvering his car around the world-class resort, La Rocca scored a solid second place result and a great start to the 2011 racing season.
The second race would not go as planned for La Rocca as the hopes were to improve on his second place result the previous day. After qualifying his ride in the third position and setting up an inside second row starting spot, La Rocca would struggle slightly in the race. Looking to score valuable championship points, La Rocca drove to another top five result crossing the stripe in the fifth position.
La Rocca continued, "The second race was a little disappointing as we thought we had a good shot at the win. I just tried to drive smart and stay out of trouble to complete my first weekend. I can't thank the entire Auto Errante-HP Tech Motorsports team enough for the fantastically prepared Ralph Firman Racecar."
La Rocca will enjoy a few weekends off before traveling to Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia for rounds three and four of the program. With the event taking place May 5 - 7,La Rocca will look to stand atop the podium and elevate himself in the point standings.
