Cole Glasson – Florida Winter Tour- Ocala Report

Cole Glasson continued the 2011 season this past weekend in Ocala at the 5th and 6th round of the Florida Winter Tour Rotax Weekend. He arrived Thursday morning with the DFR Team and his coach/tuner Chris Wehrheim to try and remain in the top five in the points championship and make a run at the podium spots. The weekend ended with some good results that had Cole on the podium in P3 on Sunday and 4th in the final Points Championship.

Thursday’s practice flew by with only four timed sessions but had Cole climbing into the Top 10 by the end of the day. Cole continued to review data with Chris to improve his lines and during Friday’s opening practice rounds Cole was 4th and 2nd respectively moving into the qualifying sessions. During Sunday’s qualifying, Cole quickly moved up the charts into the top 5, but late driving mistakes cost him positions finishing the session sitting in P9. Saturday’s qualifying session did not improve with Cole finishing in P11 moving into the race days. During Saturday mornings practice session, Cole was again in the top 5 sitting at P4 and looked to be prepped for a strong run in the prefinal; however, a costly mistake in the start pushed him back several spots, and when the flag waived, he was sitting in P13. A driving infraction penalty pushed him back 8 spots to P21 to start the final. Cole made a good run in the final to salvage some much needed points finishing in P11, but the day cost him two spots in the points championship moving him back to 7th.

Sunday started with a solid prefinal where Cole positioned himself well to make a run for the podium spots finishing in P4 for the start of the final race of the Florida Winter Tour. Cole battled the entire race as positions P3-P8 were in a 16 lap continuous fight. When the dust settled Cole crossed the line in P6; however, post tech issues pushed Cole up to his first podium spot in the FWT in P3. Cole finished off the series in 4th position and a great improvement over his 2010 FWT debut where he finished 16th.

Cole’s next national race is the first round of the Pan American East Championship that kicks off in Homestead, April 9th and 10th where he will search for another National podium and a quest for the championship. Cole would like to thank DeFrancesco Racing / SupertuneUSA who supported him this weekend along with his teammates Devlin DeFrancesco, Lachlan DeFrancesco, Dore Chaponick, Daniel Morad, Sebastien Coulston along with their tuners and especially his tuner and coach, Chris Wehrheim that helped Cole’s driving all weekend.
