The word «express» suits well the young Swiss driver Darius Oskoui, both for his speed at the wheel of a kart and for the rapidity with which he is moving on with his career. In just a few races, he has already shown some remarkable performances in the difficult KF3 international category, as proven by his top 5 at the Margutti Trophy.
Darius made his racing debut on his 8th birthday... and his first victory was his birthday present. An omen! But the first important present, a kart that triggered his passion, had come from his father a year earlier. «I love speed, I love racing and I love winning!» This declaration of intent mirrors the personality of this driver, now 13. Smiling, relaxed, extremely kind but totally determined as soon as the lights are extinguished, he prefers the intensity of the race to the lonely battle of time qualifying, though he appreciates fair play on track.
In the first period of his young career, he won the title of Champion of the French speaking Switzerland in 2005, in Mini, and again in 2006, in addition to a victory at the Vega Trophy. In his modesty, Darius says that it was just a «small» championship. Then he moved for some time to Norway and put aside his passion for karting. When he came back at the end of 2010, he raced easily in Rotax Junior
while making himself noticed at the 6 hours of Monte Carlo in a crew that conquered the second place. His team mate Nelson Panciaticci commented his performances as follows: «A special mention for Darius, who showed great maturity despite his young age: he has what it takes to be a champion!»
Very happy to be back on the tracks, Darius is preparing his 2011 season with his manager François Frigola. Testsin Lonato for Intrepid, at the presence of Alex Albon, the reference, and Esteban Ocon, were conclusive and there he was, part of the official team of the Italian constructor in KF3, the category of young hopefuls of car racing. In parallel,François Frigola registered him to the BMW Formula, in the Talent Cup, the series where the German constructor finds new talents. Of course Darius dreams of becoming, one day, a racing car driver, maybe in Formula 1, but he also admits his interest for DTM and Endurance. His favourite driver is Ayrton Senna and he likes the very elegant driving style of Jenson Button. For the time being, karting remains a priority, with a 2011 racing calendar centred on the WSK Euro Series and the CIK European Championship and then, maybe, another season in 2012 in the same discipline to build up some experience.
Not very lucky in Sarno in mid-March, at the first round of the WSK Euro Series, Darius was sent off the track too many times to be able to reach the finals. But he brilliantly caught up the following weekend, at the Andrea Margutti Trophy, a «must» event with a prestigious roll of honour. 6th in time qualifying just 14 hundredths of a second away from the pole, he repeated his good performances in the heats, in particular with the best absolute time in the pre-final and a 5th place in the final. Without a few carburettor
problems, the podium could have reasonably been within his reach. A more than encouraging result for a very young driver with little experience. Undoubtedly the talent is there!
