West Palm Beach, Florida- Racers United Charitable Fund announced today it raised $1450 for charities in two states through three different events which were capped off by a great success at the 3rd and 4th rounds of the Florida Winter Tour in West Palm Beach.
The first event of the month was a local business drive for funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Collin County in Texas. This event raised $400 for the after school programs for the children and teens of the community.
In addition, $850 was raised at the second karting event of the year held at the Florida Winter Tour in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Rotax race weekend brought 249 competitors who helped raise the money through a raffle. DeFrancesco Racing had a representative, Pam Heron, selling 50/50 raffle tickets the first two days of the event. A drawing was held on Sunday to announce the winner. Half of the proceeds went to the winner and the other half went to the West Palm Beach based Speak up for Kids program which helps neglected and abused children. The organization was on hand during many of the Sunday prefinal races as guests of DFR where they were thoroughly impressed with the level of competition on the track and the magnitude of the event.
The final event of the month raised an additional $200 that will go towards a mission trip to Haiti which has a primary focus on the poverty stricken children. On January 12, the tiny island country of Haiti experienced its worst earthquake in over 200 years. Before the earthquake, Haiti had an average household income of $250 a year. Sixty percent of the people are illiterate and more that twenty-five percent of the children suffer from malnutrition. Thirteen percent of children die before the age of 5 and twenty-five percent of the population dies before the age of 40. As you can image, since the earthquake, the statistics only deteriorated.
Racers United next event will be at the final round of the Florida Winter Tour March 25-27 in Ocala, Florida.
