Defrancesco Racing Takes Home Two Wins in FWT

"Six top five results"

Press release prepared by: Race Tech Development

March 2, 2011 – It was another weekend and another set of outstanding results for the DeFrancesco Racing (DFR) team as they managed to leave the Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) with a pair of victories and six top five results. Leading the way with race wins was Rotax Junior driver Dore Chaponick and Mini Max competitor Devlin DeFrancesco as both managed to stand atop the podium in their respective divisions.

“The PBIR facility is a tough one to figure out but with the cohesion under the DFR tent, we were able to get all of our drivers up to speed,” expressed Team Manager Nick Mitchell. “We have to thank all of our drivers, mechanics, FA Karts and Supertune USA for their hard work to ensure another successful weekend.”

With the best results of the weekend, Florida resident Dore Chaponick increased his points lead in the Rotax Junior class. After taking home a pair of wins at the Orlando Kart Center back in January, Chaponick continued his winning ways at PBIR. After making a last corner last lap pass to go from third to first on Saturday and steal the victory, Chaponick came from thirteenth in Sunday’s main event to lead but eventually stand on the second step of the podium.

DFR would enter a pair of drivers in the Rotax Mini Max class and both would be seen close to the front of the field. While Devlin DeFrancesco claimed the victory on Saturday, DFR teammate Cole Glasson would narrowly miss the podium to come home in the fourth position. While both drivers would look to continue their success on Sunday, racing luck would not be on either side as the duo claimed a fourth and ninth place finish respectively. Heading to the final round of the Florida Winter Tour program, DeFrancesco sits third in the overall points battle while Glasson is fifth.

The younger of the DeFrancesco brothers, Lachlan, would do battle in the Rotax Micro Max division. Having his best weekend of racing action to date, DeFrancesco solidly qualified his DFR prepared kart in the top half of the field for both Saturday and Sunday’s racing action with an eleventh place effort. Though Saturday would not go DeFrancesco’s way as a mid race incident would see him classified in the 32nd position, the young pilot managed an impressive 18th place result on Sunday.

Reigning Rotax DD2 World Champion Daniel Morad was back in action at PBIR but would struggle slightly. After only managing a 24th place result on Saturday, Morad rebounded on Sunday to take advantage of the race of attrition as he crossed the stripe in the second position.

Rotax Junior rookie Sebastian Coulson would join Chaponick in the 68 kart talent-laden junior class as he looked to score a podium result. After making the field on Saturday with a great effort, Coulson was awarded with a 13th place result.

The DeFrancesco Racing Team will now shift their focus to the third and final round of the Florida Winter Tour. Taking place at the Ocala Gran Prix facility, DFR drivers will look to challenge for race wins and podiums as they hunt for the elusive class championships.
