Press release prepared by: Race Tech Development
Indianapolis, Indiana – February 17, 2011 – In a program designed to help some of today’s top karting sensations advance to the formula car ranks, IndyCar driver Jay Howard and F2000 pilot Billy McLaughlin Jr. have teamed up to form McLaughlin Motorsports. With their focus being on the upper echelon of the karting world and the entry level operations in the world of open wheel racing, McLaughlin Motorsports has already advanced karting standout Ethan Ringel to the United States F2000 Championship Series.
“We are excited to have Ethan Ringel join the McLaughlin Motorsports program,” expressed McLaughlin. “Ethan has been a standout in the karting world and has been a member of Team USA at the 2009 and 2010 Rotax World Finals. He enters the team as a leader and a driver our younger competitors can learn from. We are excited to get the year started.”
McLaughlin Motorsports will utilize a 53’ stacker trailer for their karting operations and provide pit space and driver coaching for all team drivers. Jay Howard will head up team operations and provide driver coaching and data analysis while Ogden USA will supply power to team competitors. McLaughlin Motorsports will compete at the remaining Florida Winter Tour Rotax events as well as the Rotax Pan-American Challenge, the Rotax Grand Nationals and the annual Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SuperNationals.
“Drivers under the McLaughlin Motorsports karting program will be allowed to utilize any brand of chassis,” expressed Howard. “Our goal is to put some of today’s best karting talents in the same program and make the advancement into open wheel racing less stressful. Having a kart and car team is the easiest way to do that and throw in the experience that has come together, McLaughlin Motorsports is going to be an easy choice.”
Joining McLaughlin Motorsports for the second round of the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT) will be Mini Max front runner Kyle Kirkwood, Juan Manuel Correa, Thomas Issa, Jack Miller, David Malukas, David and Michael Ilavia as well as the already mentioned Ringel who will see battle in both TaG and Rotax Senior. While chassis will range from Kosmic to Tony Kart to CRG to Birel, all team drivers will be aboard Ogden USA powered machines at the ultra fast Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR).
Howard continued, “We are looking to start the first event for McLaughlin Motorsports off right. We have high expectations for this event and as a team we will work hard to attain them.”
