New Alignment between Rotax and the United States

1/31/2011

JANUARY 31, 2011 - Garry Lobaugh, Director of the Rotax Max Challenge United States, announced today a new alignment between Rotax and the United States ASN, World Karting Association (WKA).

All international Rotax events recognized in the US by the MAXSpeed Group and sanctioned by WKA will be able to move forward with international competitors carrying a proper license from their home country without penalty. Previously international racers were at risk for violation of CIK rules pertaining to non sanctioned events.

“Under the leadership of BRP-Powertrain (Rotax) this new agreement signifies a historic alignment that has taken decades to accomplish in this country,” remarked Lobaugh.

MAXSpeed Group is a newly formed US company in charge of all Rotax distribution for the United States and is authorized by BRP-Powertrain (Rotax) to distribute 22 tickets to the upcoming Rotax Grand Finals in Al Ain in the United Arabic Emirates in the fall of 2011. Those seats are awarded to competitors of the Pan-Am final event to be hosted Sept 23-25 at New Castle, The Florida Winter Tour, The Challenge of the Americas and the US Rotax Grand Nationals to be hosted July 19-23 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT.

All US competitors will be able to obtain their membership/ license through the WKA by clicking on www.worldkarting.com/downloads/infopack.pdf. This new agreement is effective immediately and will be required for the upcoming Fontana California Challenge of the Americas events and the upcoming Florida Winter Tour events in February and beyond.

Lobaugh will travel to Fontana to assist in the licensing process while WKA and ASN Canada representatives will be on hand at Palm Beach International Raceway for the upcoming double race weekends starting on February 18th and 25th.

Questions about the Rotax program can be answered at MAXSpeed Group main office (269) 756-7444 or by email garry@gorotax.com . For questions about WKA contact Van Gilder at van@worldkarting.com .

This new agreement is the first step toward the ultimate goal of hosting a Rotax Grand Finals event at a US track in the near future, reported Lobaugh. This accomplishment was a joint effort of the MAXSpeed Group, SRA, ASN Canada and WKA.

From Formula Kart Productions President Bill Wright: “As the exclusive owner and promoter of the FWT and the administrator and promoter of the Pan American Challenge I’m happy to finally have official status for our international competitions. Now we can focus on developing these two series to their highest potential without concern for the future. Thanks to WKA and MAXSpeed Group for their combined efforts on behalf of myself and all the FWT and Pan American competitors.”

Andy Seesemann, organizer for the Challenge of the Americas, remarked “It will be good to have all North American Rotax racers on the same page as far as licensing goes. Not only will it be easier for the Rotax Grand Finals qualifiers to obtain International licenses when the time comes, but it will get US Rotax racers more in line with the rest of the world.”
