Canadian Karting Championship 2011 Schedule

12/22/2010

Principals of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship today are absolutely thrilled to be able to confirm their competition format and schedule for the upcoming season, and even more excited with the news their Championship Awards being earned in Rotax Junior, Senior, and DD2 next summer will be spots on Team Canada for the 2011 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals at Al Ain Raceway, Abu Dhabi!

“We’re almost excited beyond words with the first of our Championship Awards for the season, and just really, really proud of what the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship is becoming,” said Goodwood Kartways’ President Daniel Di Leo, speaking for PSL Karting President Dominic Labrecque and Mosport International Karting President Ken Flute as well.

“We went on record last season stating we had long-term goals to take Canadian karting to a level previously unseen, and with this latest news we are definitely taking another step in that direction. We are primarily a Rotax Max Championship, and to become a National Championship able to offer three trips to the Grand Finals for our champions is surely the ultimate prize. I believe being granted these awards is also an acknowledgement of the great season we had last year, and everyone that was involved with the Championship should celebrate their efforts! At the same time, we are by no means resting on our laurels, and believe we have great things coming in season two.”

On that note, the second Eastern Canadian Karting Championship schedule will see Goodwood Kartways, Karting Trois-Rivieres, and Mosport International Karting each host a double-header event before the Series heads to the home of the 2011 Canadian National Karting Championships at Circuit Karting Mont-Tremblant. As was the case in its inaugural season, a single Sunday Mont-Tremblant round will follow a scheduled Saturday race of the Coupe de Quebec, allowing for a test day of sorts for ECKC drivers before they face the ultimate Series Showdown on Canada’s National Championship track.

It’s a schedule that once again becomes very effective at building inter-provincial competition, and if the expected growth follows from last season, the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship will surely confirm itself as one of the premiere Rotax Max Challenges in North America during season two. The high mark for DD2 last season was 33 karts, Rotax Senior had 35 at each of the final two rounds, and the Rotax Junior field increased at each of four events, topping at 32 in Mont-Tremblant. Along with many of the top drivers in the country, the ECKC also attracted a number of karting’s top chassis lines, and race weekends truly became major happenings in Canadian karting.

Watch for more information on the 2011 Eastern Canadian Karting Championship as season two gathers momentum through the Winter and into the Canadian Spring. Next month will see a continuation of Awards Watch, as Karter Hickling, Zachary Claman-DeMelo and Kyle Herder head to the opening round of the Florida Winter Tour on ECKC Championship Awards. Also watch for changes to eckc.ca as the New Year dawns.
