Article By: Jamie Sender

The NW Race Karts/Hammer Nutrition team is making its final preparations for this year’s SKUSA Super Nationals event at the Rio. On the heels of a superb season that saw many team drivers have great success, the team hopes to maintain its momentum and improve on past Super Nats podium results.

The NWRK/ Hammer team is represented by six drivers in three different classes. Brandon Scheiber, 15 from Maple Valley, WA, will be making his debut in the S5 class after showing great pace in testing and racing all season and should be considered a dark horse. Scheiber has been racing karts for five years. Coming from motorcycle racing, Brandon isn’t sure where his karting will take him but as long as he keeps moving his career forward he’ll be happy. Rookie driver Jerry Peterson came off from a solid season where he competed in two classes: Rotax Senior and B-Spec. Clenching championships in both classes, Peterson took 49 podiums and 13 wins. Peterson of Bellevue, WA will be competing in the Tag Masters class.

NWRK/Hammer will also be supporting four drivers in the S4 class: Brian Frank of Whitefish, MT, Brian Nixon of Covington, WA, Steve Perdue of Auburn, WA, and Craig Sender of Kent, WA. Frank joined the NWRK team in 2009 and quickly picked up shifter racing with his immense athletic abilities. Through his vast knowledge of nutrition and exercise, Frank has been able to educate his fellow team members which has helped everyone considerably improve. Nixon, a shifter kart racer since 1994 is making his first Super Nats start after supporting his son, Chris, for several Super National events. Perdue will be competing in his 5th Consecutive Super Nats and hopes to improve on his ’08 and ’09 5th and 7th place finishes. Sender will be making his 10th Super National start and is looking to add his 4th Super Nats podium to his résumé. With 67 entries in the S4 class, Craig Sender and Steve Perdue have been recognized by ekartingnews as favored drivers for a podium finish.

A strong field of mechanics will be aiding these drivers. Michael Scheiber will be wrenching on his son’s machine. The two have been a successful duo since 2006. Peterson will be supported by his wife Mira and father Jerry. Sony will be supporting her husband Brian Frank with the help of mechanics Tim Musch, and Skyler Benoit. Musch, a well known face and mechanic in the karting world has been racing and wrenching on karts for 13 years. Skyler, who has been racing since 2009, will bring top notch driving and tuning advice that will be invaluable to the team. Brian Nixon will be receiving assistance by NW shifter kart racer Rusty Lingle. Perdue will be supported by his wife Michelle, a past racer, and mechanics Tim Musch and Arun Cawthorn, who has several years of racing under his belt and will be returning for his 5th Super Nats as a tuner. And lastly, Jamie Sender, who raced for 10 years herself and placed 5th at a previous Super Nats, will be supporting her husband as his mechanic and data analyst.

Matt Jaskol of Las Vegas, NV will be onboard an Intrepid, racing in the KZ2 class at the Super Nats this year under the Leading Edge tent of Greg Bell. Jaskol has been training and working with the NWRK/ Hammer drivers in Seattle preparing for Vegas and has been enlisted for the 2011 season as their lead driver and coach. Not only is Jaskol an outstanding kart racer, he also is a remarkable triathlete and has been an avid supporter of Hammer Nutrition products as a customer prior to his involvement with the team.

This will be NWRK’s third Super Nationals. Since being founded in 2007 by Steve and Michelle Perdue, the team has already seen several podium finishes and championships. Steve is an avid kart racer, motor builder, and NW Intrepid dealer whose goal is to increase interest in karting and to help all racers, any way he can. Steve Perdue and Craig Sender were the first two drivers to form the team and have since grown to over a dozen regional and national drivers. In 2009 Perdue acquired Hammer Nutrition as the team’s title sponsor.

“With the experience of the NWRK team and the Hammer Nutrition products, our drivers have been able to endure harder training sessions and experience more endurance during the race and race weekend,” explains Steve Perdue “The precision built NWRK motors and Hammer Nutrition products fuel our drivers with the tools required to go fast.”
