“Dominating performances throughout the weekend”
Article By: Race Tech Development
October 7, 2010 – After falling victim to some bad luck a few weeks prior, the Position One Motorsports squad bounced back this past weekend to score some solid results at the International Karting Federation (IKF) Region 7 event. Taking place at the Adams Motorsports Park facility in southern California, Position One Motorsports drivers claimed three podium results including two main event victories with only four competitors.
Competing under the Position One Motorsports team tent were PRD Senior drivers Bobby Kelley and Nick Johnston, KPV driver Skylar Estrada and PRD Junior 1 front runner Andrew Murowatz. While Kelley, Johnston and Estrada would be on board Position One Motorsports prepared Maddox chassis, Murowatz would compete on his Avanti ride and look to help bring the team a handful of solid results.
With the PRD Senior bounty up to $2,500.00 for any driver that could be Johnston or Kelley, the duo would look to be on top of their game and keep their winning streak going. Kelley would get the best of the pair of drivers in qualifying as he would score the second quickest lap time of the session and an outside front row starting spot while Johnston would line up third. Looking to make headway in the prefinal, Johnston took his attack to the field early and quickly moved into the lead while Kelley settled in with the lead group. After the short prefinal, Johnston would take the heat race win while his teammate would come home third.
In the all important main event, the pair of Position One Motorsports Maddox drivers was unstoppable as they moved to the head of the field early. Looking to break away from the others, Johnston and Kelley worked together before they would battle it out for the win in the final few circuits. When the dust had settled and the checkered flag had flown, it was Johnston that would take the victory ahead of Kelley as Position One Motorsports would sweep the top two podium positions.
Maddox driver Skylar Estrada would overcome a tough qualifying effort to score a solid top five result in KPV 1. After turning the eighth quickest time in the morning time trials, Estrada would move forward in the heat race to claim a fourth place result and an outside second row starting spot for the main event. Looking to stand atop the podium, the Maddox driver would battle with the lead group in the opening stages of the main event but would eventually come home in the eighth position.
In the PRD Junior 1 Cadet class, Position One Motorsports customer Andrew Murowatz would do battle and look to fight for the win. With the expectations of solid results resting on his shoulders, Murowatz did not disappoint. After taking the pole position, the Avanti driver would fall to second place in the prefinal but would make the necessary chassis changes to take the win in the main event.
While the real racing action didn’t take place until Sunday, Adams Motorsports Park hosted a ‘Legends of Adams’ race for anyone and everyone that started racing at the facility and have moved on from karting to further their careers on Saturday evening. With high attendance numbers and the talent such as Troy Adams (owner of Adams Motorsports Park), Jesus Vasquez (P1 Engines owner and former competitor) and John Bush, the racing action would be fierce.
Competing with PRD powered Maddox rental chassis Luis Martinez Jr, Randel King and Jesus Vasquez would represent the Position One Motorsports squad. Looking to get the weekend started off right practice would see the competitors run the track counter clockwise while a late change would see qualifying be run in the opposite direction. With the event running in a ‘fun’ fashion, the on track drivers were taking it serious as Jesus Vasquez would take the win ahead of teammate Randel King. Martinez would come home in the eleventh position after falling three laps down due to an incident on the first lap.
The next event for the Position One Motorsports squad is the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix on October 8 – 10th, 2010. Any drivers still looking for arrive and drive opportunities at the Superkarts!
