EKN Goes Live for Rock Island Grand Prix

In recent years, the Rock Island Grand Prix has sported the title as the ‘World’s Largest Street Race’ for karting, and if you’ve been fortunate enough to attend the event in the Quad Cities area along the Mississippi River, you would certainly agree with this statement. The staff at eKartingNews.com feels the same way, having been part of both the on-track and off-track excitement and entertainment that takes place annually over the Labor Day weekend. The EKN crew is looking forward to the this weekend’s event and is happy to announce that with the support of the RIGP and a host of program partners, include presenting sponsor Shockwave Karting, they will be providing live streaming audio coverage for those not able to attend. Through the site’s ‘EKN Live’ page - accessible via www.ekartingnews.com/live - viewers of the website will be able to hear the live race call over the two-day event.

“It is always a pleasure traveling to the Rock Island Grand Prix,” commented Editor-in-Chief of eKartingNews.com Rob Howden. “It’s the most fun I have on and off the track in karting. This race is certainly unique and is such an important part of our sport. Now, with the package we have been able to put together on EKN, karting enthusiasts at home can now listen in on the racing action.”

The EKN Live coverage, presented by Shockwave Karting, will stream the live play-by-play call of the on-track action by Howden, one of the sport’s leading commentators. Howden’s voice can be heard during the qualifying sessions on Saturday and through the opening ceremonies and main events on Sunday. eKartingNews.com Managing Editor David Cole will handle the production of the live broadcast while also managing the website’s industry-leading ‘Trackside Live’ coverage, which features immediate top-10 session updates in the forums along with daily race reports and photos.

Live coverage of the 2010 Rock Island Grand Prix will get underway on eKartingNews.com/Live at 1:00 pm Central on Saturday, September 4 with the opening qualifying sessions. The broadcast will continue at 12:00 pm Central on Sunday, September 5 with the opening ceremonies, beginning with the King of the Streets battle.

The weekend will also play host a special edition of the EKN Bridgestone Kart Report, which will be taped during the Friday ‘Welcome Karters’ party at the Skellington Manor. Howden and Cole will discuss on the latest news in the karting world and will chat with some of the event’s drivers, team owners and organizers. This podcast will be made available early next week.

This EKN Live package is being made possible in part by the support Shockwave Karting, Margay Racing Products and the SKUSA Central States Challenge.
