This past Saturday Italian Motors USA hosted the official grand opening of it’s brand new SIMA facility. The “Sumas International Motorsport Academy “ has been a long held vision of karting business owner and successful entrepreneur Claudio Valiante. The facility, a multi purpose motorsport complex includes an incredible 17 corner, 3955’ foot long track that can actually host multiple race events simultaneously. This became evident mid morning after the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony was performed by the mayor of the city of Sumas. The track was then opened to the public, and for the remainder of the day rental karts were made available to the general public on the west course, while competitive race karts ran on the east course. This all took place under the careful supervision of professional race car driver Michael Valiante and company.
Lunch was served to all just outside the entrance to the main building which houses a beautiful trackside restaurant, along with a fully stocked parts and service department. As if this wouldn’t be all you could hope for in your local kart racing facility, Italian Motors USA has also constructed individual storage garages for those racers looking to avoid the hassles of towing kart and equipment to and from the track.
The day was a lot of fun and it was obvious that the large contingent of attendees thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Kudos to the Valiante family, and Italian Motors USA for giving us a spectacular facility, and a fun filled day in which to enjoy it.
The track will host it’s first official race in seven weeks as the NW Gold cup/Rotax Challenge series will make it’s way to Sumas on September 17-19th for round nine of the 2010 season. You certainly won’t want to miss it, and of course Northwest Karting News will be on hand to cover all the weekend’s racing action.
See You There !
