Tate Holleran extended his lead in the Rotax Mini Max class of the Racing
the Rockies karting series with a main event victory Sunday (July 11) on The
Track at Centennial in Englewood, Colo.
Holleran, a 10-year-old from Denver, edged rival Jason Dempster by .680 of
a second on the .8-mile track. Holleran started second in the 15-lap main,
took the lead on laps seven and eight, ran in second from nine through 11 and
regained the lead and maintained it for the final four laps to the
Holleran has a 17-point lead over Dempster going into the fourth and final
round of Racing the Rockies on Aug. 8 at the Pepsi Center. He was the fast
qualifier in the third round at 58.989 seconds, an average speed of 48.839
mph. Holleran finished second to Dempster in the 12-lap heat race that
established the grid for the main.
“We were really using this as a tune-up for Shawano,” father Rob Holleran
explained. “We bought a new FA Kart and thought we should run it before
going to Shawano. Tate did a great job. He loves the car.”
Holleran will drive for Phil Giebler Racing this weekend (July 16-18) in
the TaG Cadet class at the Mothers Polish Superkarts! USA SummerNationals at
the USA International Raceway in Shawano, Wis. It’s the second round of the
SKUSA Pro Tour. Holleran had a victory and a third place in the two main
events in the Pro Tour’s opening round in April at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma,
Giebler contributed to Holleran’s triumph Sunday via text and phone calls.
