The following is a statement released by WKA and President Rick Dresang
WKA Members and Industry Partners -
The events of these last 30 days have been among the most tumultuous during WKA's history and certainly during my tenure. Along with the Executive Committee and current Trustees, I am anxious to share with you a sequence of events and facts of what has occurred over the past year and even beyond. While the recent focus has been on a specific incident that ultimately caused suspension of these members, the reality is that there has been an escalating hostile environment within the Board of Trustees. Unfortunately, the outcome was a lot of negative activity and counterproductive use of time and energy by all involved. A skewed picture has been painted for many of you, to the detriment of the organization and the members.
For now, we do need to keep the details of these recent events confidential until the suspension appeal process has run its course. Once that is complete and we are able to fully share these facts and other circumstances we are confident you will see that a significant change was needed to be able to get the organization back on track and moving forward. The WKA Executive Committee and Board of Trustees is committed to providing and sustaining a safe, competitive and fair environment for karting. As the economy and the current generations continue to evolve, it is as critical that we are equally focused on growing both the industry and WKA. This has not been the focus over the last several months, resulting in somewhat of a standstill during a time that WKA must be seen and act as a leader in the industry.
Over the next weeks and months we will share with you as much as we can. We'll start with simply putting more specifics and context to what we've already communicated. We will also have new temporary trustees in place very soon for members to direct questions and feedback. As always, feel free to contact any member of the Executive Committee or any Trustee. For those of you who have continued to be supportive, I thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. I encourage those of you who are unsure to be open-minded as you learn more about what has transpired, where we are headed and how we plan to get there.
