What could be better than supporting a worthy cause? How about having a lot of fun at the same time. This Friday, PGP Motorsports Park is pleased to host the 2010 Pacific Northwest Historics Kart Race Challenge presented by the Society of Vintage Racing Enthusiasts (SOVREN) and the SOVREN Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Beginning with registration at 5 p.m., the Kart Race Challenge will pit 25 four-driver teams — every slot was filled in advance — against each other to raise money for Seattle Children’s Hospital. After a mandatory drivers meeting at 6:15 p.m., the teams will hit the track for two hours of racing excitement, just inches off the ground on PGP’s .82-mile, 14-turn state-of-the-art track.
Fans are encouraged to attend Friday’s event, to cheer on and donate to their favourite team. Spectators will have no trouble following the action as PGP is set within a valley where 1.8 million cubic yards of earth were removed, dropping 20 acres by 50 feet and creating a true velodrome where spectators look down on every corner, making every seat the best in the house.
Prizes to be awarded at the post-race ceremonies around 8:30 p.m. include most money pledged, best team name, most laps completed, fastest team and largest number pledges, and more. Special recognition at the closing ceremonies will be given for donations of $1,000, $2,000, $3,000 or more.
The Kart Challenge at PGP Motorsports Park is part of the 22nd annual Pacific Northwest Historics Vintage Auto Races that begin Thursday and conclude Sunday at nearby Pacific Raceways. The SOVREN Guild was formed in 1991 with the sole purpose of working with SOVREN (Society of Vintage Racing Enthusiasts) to produce and present the Pacific Northwest Historics Vintage Car Race as a benefit for Seattle Children’s Hospital.
The SOVREN Guild is one of more than 500 guilds in the Seattle Children’s Hospital Guild Association, which is comprised of nearly 7,500 members statewide. The SOVREN Guild has contributed more than $7 million to uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s since its inception.
