Wimsett Wins WSK North American Round 2

With the temperature near 100 degrees and a tight field of accomplished kart racers, the RPG tuned and SSC East/CRG sponsored Joey Wimsett remained cool to win the KF2 class in Phoenix, Arizona at the second round of the WSK North American series.

The KF is the premiere kart package in European and International kart racing. The electric start 125 cc two stoke engine has replaced the 100cc ICA engine that was once the international standard in top level karting. Gaining popularity in North America, the WSK North American Series hosts the strongest KF classes in the United States with manufacturer teams such as CRG, Top Kart, and Tony Kart represented in the six weekend championship.

Joey Wimsett enters the Phoenix weekend trailing defending champion Arie Ouimet in the championship. The two SSC East/CRG sponsored drivers were competitive right from the start. In the races on Saturday, Wimsett drew first blood by winning the prefinal but Ouimet had the last word by winning the main event.

In a tight qualifying battle on Sunday, Ouimet edged Wimsett by a mere .067 seconds. Unfortunately, bad luck left Ouimet on the side lines in the prefinal and allowed Wimsett to cruise to victory ahead of the field. In the main event, Phil DeLaO of Top Kart got the jump from P2 to lead Wimsett into turn one. A fierce three way fight for second allowed DeLaO to pull a gap on the pack. After a battle that secured second place, Wimsett went on to chase down DeLaO but was only able to cross the finish line in second.

With his consistency on the weekend, Wimsett took home the KF2 event winner award and $1,000 in cash for his efforts.

Team RPG will resume their Rotax program in round 3 & 4 of the Rotax Pan American Challenge on June 11-13 at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana.
