Greg Bevan Memorial Race May 15, 2010

Portland Karting Association will be hosting a Road Race at Portland International raceway May 15, 2010 in memory of Greg Bevan. Greg passed away at age 57 on January 9, 2010 unexpectedly from a heart attack.

A memorial service and last lap ceremony will be held during the lunch break from 12:15 to 12:45 for everyone wishing to attend.

Greg, his wife Karen and Jeff began racing at Pat’s Acres in Canby, OR, In 1992 when Jeff was JR racer. From the time they started karting Greg and Karen were committed volunteers with PKA. As the years progressed so did their commitment to the club with Karen scoring races and Greg flagging during races. They were on the PKA committee for the 1995 Sprint IKF Grand Nationals held at Pats Acres and were valuable and reliable workers.

When Jeff became a senior driver Greg had the time to race and they decided to road race. The highlight of the road racing years was when Jeff won a Duffy in 200 at PIR in the 125/150 Gearbox Class with Greg waving the Checkered flag. Over the years Greg could also be found at the local dirt tracks, sometimes racing and sometimes just hanging out with his friends from karting.

Greg was an avid motor sports fan and you could count on the #3 Earnhardt flag flying in his shop and race trailer. But, there was a softer side to Greg if he let you break through his gruff exterior. He raced motorcycles in his youth and continued to ride until his death. Greg earned his living as a master mechanic and welder that could field repair just about anything back together. When wasn’t racing he enjoyed archery, fishing and bird hunting. He was devoted to Karen, Jeff, and his dogs!. He made lifelong friendships in racing and will be dearly missed those who loved him.

During his years in karting Greg held the official titles of Road Race VP Including during the 2000 RR Grand Nationals held at PIR and IKF Governor from Oregon. In their spare time, Greg and Karen operated a trophy shop and for years provided trophies to PKA.

In front of the PIR tower will be photos of Greg throughout his years in racing. Karen and Jeff will be attending the road race and would love to share memories of Greg.
