Kathryn Cornell wins Two, in Rd2 at Pro Kart North

Kathryn Cornell made a strong surge in late 2009 picking up wins while setting fast times. The momentum from last season has carried over into 2010. After early success at the Pro Kart North opener with solid strong runs, Cornell was determined to capture wins early in the new season, and her recent results at the Pro Kart Challenge North series displayed Kathryn’s tough Focus in ultimate success….WINS!

Friday Practice consisted of a wet track and rain fall providing different track conditions forcing the teams to prepare for quick Chassis changes in the Saturday Morning Practice sessions. Cornell was running two Karts for the day, providing twice the work, twice the panic, and twice the focus to align the chassis changes and handling characteristics to the fast changing track conditions as the competitors laid down new rubber on the rained on green track surface.

The quick changes made through practice with the help of Extreme Motorsports placed Kathryn at the top of the charts in HPV-2. Cornell carried that speed into Qualifying with fast lap to start pole in the first heat race and four tenths on the field. In the first Heat race Kathryn Cornell made a statement proving she was the driver to beat in HPV-2 with a solid Win, however in Heat two Problems for Cornell put her second at the finish, yet still with the fastest lap of the race. In the early laps of the final, it was clear the problems she experienced earlier in the day were repaired, and Cornell drove to victory in the HPV-2 category once again with the fastest lap.

Cornell’s work wasn’t finished, as she had one more category to capture a win, TAG Jr, and it ended up challenging all of her skills as a driver. In the first practice Cornell recorded the third fastest lap and backed it up in qualifying with a 3rd place starting position and a third place finish in the first heat. In the second heat Cornell found the setup in the Tag kart leading much of the race, unfortunate mechanical problems caught up to her Extreme Machine and put her on the sidelines of the second heat with a DNF, more unfortunate of the last starting spot in the field for Final and some tough work ahead for the young Norcal Pilot. As the race progressed Kathryn made quick work of the slower karts and had caught the leader by halfway. A battle of the leaders ensued with several lead changes. The two young pilots put on a display of close racing without giving each an inch more then what was needed. Racing to the checkered, it was a drag race to the line with Cornell getting the victory for the second of the day.

Cornell rolled into Pro Kart North Round 2 looking to capture two victories, and the hard work in preparation paid off. Next for Kathryn is the North American Pro Tour where she will compete with the top West Coast drivers at Infineon raceway.
