The biggest event of the year is upon us, the SKUSA SuperNationals, and the 13th edition is sure to be the biggest with the largest talent pool yet. The same can be said for Team Top Kart USA with its numerous champions heading to the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas. Supporting the team will be Kartel Motorsports, PKS, Kart Nation, and Empire Karts.
Though the team is not entering any drivers in Super Pro, Top Kart has three entries in the very competitive KF2 category. Brendan Phinny, Neil Alberico, and Taylor Miinch will be taking on the international field. Both Miinch and Alberico will be making their debut in the category while this will only be Miinch’s second senior race after taking home a WKA Grand National Eagle last weekend in his SR. debut. Missing from the list is CKI runner up Chris Wehrheim who will be focusing on Raquel Martinez.
With six entries in TaG Jr., the team has multiple drivers capable of taking home the crown. Making his North American debut will be Jake Dennis, factory Top Kart driver and current KF3 Vice World Champion. Raquel Martinez, Kyle Spaulding, and Mason Chelootz are three of the top TaG Jr. drivers in the country and will surely be top contenders. Soon to represent the United States in the Rotax Worlds is Alec Udell who has focused most of his efforts on Rotax in 2009, but is one to never count out in TaG. Also joining the team is Richy Yates who is making his SuperNats debut.
TaG Sr. is quite possibly the most competitive and heated field of the weekend with 80 drivers entered. Leading the way will be CKI National Champion Michael Hogg. TaG Jr. National Champ Miinch will be pulling double duty along with Alberico who is always at the front. Indy Car’s Dan Wheldon will be returning to compete with the team under the Kartel Banner. Wheldon had a great showing in 2008 looks to do even better. Last but not least is Las Vegas resident Neil McCoy. McCoy is always one to watch come race time.
In the shifter categories Top Kart has three drivers. Wiegand will be returning to his roots running in S3. After finishing second in the King of the Streets at Rock Island, Wiegand is looking for redemption and the SuperNats title. In G1 Jason Lee will be competing aboard his Flash and Kyle Spaulding will be competing in S5.
This is the second to last race of the season for Team Top Kart USA with only the CKI PRI All-Star Karting classic remaining.
