The Monroe Winter Series race #2 kicked off this past Sunday with a very good turn out. Four classes of racers took to the track with some great battles and a very fun attitude between all the competitors. The weather started out very cold and rainy in morning practice and qualifying, with all drivers having their work cut out for them. As the day went on, the rain began to let up and by heat 1 racers took off their rain tires and switched to slicks as the sun started to come out. All in all it was a great day of racing and competition for everyone!
The Kid Karts started off the day with Ellie Musgrave running strong and taking home first place.
In the second class Jr 1, there was a great race in which Alec Bergstrom came up with the win, followed by Cassidy Gannon and Alex Easter.
The third class was Rotax Sr and Rotax Jr, which consisted of some fierce battles throughout the day, putting on quite the show. In the end, Derek Wang took home the first place spot, followed by Aaron Bizier in second, and Brittney Cusack in third. For the Rotax Jr class, CJ Gannon put up a great fight to take first, and Molly Helmuth running very well to take home the second spot.
Following Rotax was Honda Hvy/Lt, Yamaha, and World Formula. This race consisted of two separate classes battling it out on the track at the same time. Mike Helmuth took first in Yamaha, with Rob MacDonald in second and Steve Manney in third. In the World Formula and Honda Hvy/Lt class Jerry Filgiano took home first place, with Donald Hall in second and Bruce Berg in third.
The day ended with an awards ceremony and a big congratulation to all the racers for coming out for a great race day at Monroe. The next race will be held on December 6th, hope to see you all there!
